One thing I've always admired about Jack—although it's a little tough to live with—is that he absolutely lives every day to its fullest. He's full-steam, full-speed all day long, and every day is an "aventure".
At bedtime, Jack doesn't ever fall asleep. It's more like he succumbs to it after exhausting every ounce of fight in his tiny, buzzing body. Carpe diem, Jack.
I made it! I have now been in Durham, NC for just over a week now and am finally beginning to feel settled...although we still don't have a couch in our living room. Makes for a pretty empty room. Anyways, the drive went by swimmingly with (thankfully) no car trouble, GPS trouble, or boredom trouble. We listened to some books on tape that helped pass the time. We arrived in Durham last Monday and moved into our apartment. It is about a mile from where I have class and a short drive to West Campus where Darin's classes are. I have already found how convenient this will be with class at 8:00am 3-4 days a week.
Last Wednesday through Friday I had orientation for the program. The first two days were very long, spent talking about the program and what the next three years will hold for me. The faculty has REPEATEDLY told us how hard this year is going to be and that I should say goodbye to sleep and free time. Last Friday we spent the day at a park in a nearby city to complete a low ropes course. So we didn’t get to go up into the trees. It was a blast it and forced us to get to know each other a little better. I still don’t know everyone’s names (all 59 of us) but I’m working on it. Classes started yesterday and thankfully I don’t have much work as of yet, however I’m sure it isn’t too far away.
I hope all is well at home. I’ve heard the weather at home has been less than ideal. It rained all day today and was about 80 degrees…quite a bit different than the Tacoma rain I am used to. I miss you all dearly and hope everyone can come visit me sometime. I promise to keep you all updated as I go through this big change in my life during my free time (I’m determined to have some time not spent studying!). I love you all!
